Online dating alert signals

The trust toward the partner when dating over the Internet is always at test. This is why it is important to be careful. If you have decided to date over the Internet or have already done so, you must be prepared for certain situations. Basically, each situation is different, but it is important that you trust your intuition. The list provided below is meant to help you recognize some of the alert signals that could appear when you date over the Internet.

Alert Signal One: Personal Information
If someone shares or asks you to share personal information during the first few dates, this should be taken seriously. Regardless of how friendly a person behaves, considering that Internet dates could be risky, you should not share or ask your date to share personal information. You should always keep in mind, that there is no guarantee that what has been shown or said to you is true. Be careful and do not share personal information, unless you are satisfied with what you have learned about your partner. The precautions that you could take when chatting with somebody over the Internet, include the use of a fake name and e-mail address.

Alert Signal Two: Lack of Reliable Contact Information
When your partner has not provided reliable contact information, or if a situation like the ones listed bellow occurs, you should be extra careful.

- You have persistently tried to contact your partner over the phone, but were not able to do so.
- You are asked to notify your partner by paging or sending an SMS, so he/she could call you. Only he/she can call you and you cannot call him/her.
- Your partner is using a separate phone line, or you are asked to call him/her only during a specific time of the day. In this case, you can try calling at a different time to check who is answering the phone.

Alert Signal Three: Financial Aid Requests
Since you are still dating over the Internet and your relationship is supposedly not deep enough yet, all requests for financial aid are untimely. Moreover, this could adversely affect your relationship, even if there is a chance that it could develop further. If you or your partner borrow money, this could mean that the financial condition of one of you is unsatisfactory and this could keep back the potential partner. To avoid getting into financial problems, strictly follow this simple rule: “Do not either borrow or lend money to your Internet date.”

Alert Signal Four: One-sided Efforts to Continue a Relationship
Trying to change your way of life, you are the only one making efforts to continue a relationship. Do you notice whether your partner is also making efforts to continue your relationship? You should be aware of the fact that no relationship can last long, if you are the only one making efforts to continue it. If you notice such a thing, you should seriously talk with your partner over the matter.
